(04 April, Pasay City, Philippines) The 5th Philippine International Pyromusical Competition (PIPC) capped a six-week show with a bang with the Royal Pyrotechnie of Canada clinching first place.
The Royal Pyrotechnie started out as a small toy store that sold small firecrackers in Canada. After participating in a fireworks competition in Montreal in 1967, the company has since focused on perfecting its craft. Today, Royal Pyrotechnie is known as the most decorated fireworks company in Canada and the only company to have received the Jupiter d’Or award thrice.
The PIPC ran for six consecutive Saturdays from February 15 to March 22 at the Seaside Boulevard of the SM Mall of Asia (MOA). A total of 10 competing countries participated in the tournament, with the host country the Philippines showcasing its pyrotechnics savoir-faire during the opening and closing exhibitions on February 15 and March 22 respectively.
China’s Liuyang New Year Fireworks placed second followed by Jubilee Fireworks of the United Kingdom. The remaining countries which participated were Australia, Spain, France, Japan, Germany, Finland, Canada and USA.
More than just a mall, the SM Mall of Asia is a tourist destination that has raised the standard of shopping, leisure, and entertainment in the Philippines. Spanning over 400,000 square meters of floor area, SM Mall of Asia is one of the world’s largest malls. It has 8,000 parking slots, 5,000 square meters allotted for public utility vehicles, 100 slots for tourist buses, almost a kilometer in length, and almost two kilometers in the perimeter.
SM founder Henry Sy, Sr. visualized the mall to be more than just a shopping complex but a major destination in the Asia Pacific region. This vision gave birth to the SM Mall of Asia which opened in May 2006 and was SM Prime Holdings, Inc.’s 25th mall in the country.
